A safe place to construct a new reality by defining culture through creative actions — Afropunk — just announced its return to the shores of South Africa for the year's most anticipated event, the AFROPUNK JOBURG FESTIVAL. The news has got the whole country in disarray as fans from all over the African continent took to social media to express their excitement for the star-studded lineup.

From the 30th to the 31st of December 2019, Afropunk will be hosting their annual 2 Days festival at the Constitutional Hill in Johannesburg, Braamfontein. The lineup up is a solid balance between developing and established creatives - performances from international stars such Solange, Miguel, Gold link, Burna boy, Masego and many more. Afropunk has always been a space to get your groove on, whilst also making sense of the world around you through heritage. Le Grand Ball and Vogue Nights Jozi are collaborating to add "the championship ball" to the event — an initiative aimed at redefining the night life scene of Johannesburg — by creating safer places for queer, trans and non-binary bodies through ballrooms. This movement has pushed the boundaries of music, fashion and dance to give a platform to the individuals that are usually sidelined in regular spaces around the city

For many participants, Afropunk in New York City was an opportunity to be amongst the latest Black, queer artists and legends. It's strength was the fact that it was a cornucopia of people that harmoniously reveled in musical performance, art, and dancing.
