Question and Answer interview with Youn Gee (Q & A)

1.) Who are you and what do you represent? (tell us about yourself)
A. I go by the name of YounGee & my partner Veto, we are a music duo under DreamsOverDollars Records and we represent our struggles, pain, life experiences & joyful moments that we come across in this life that we live in. We are entrepreneurs!! The nominees of Best Music group at Matlosana Entertainment Music Awards.

2.) When did you start music and why?
A. I started making music at the age of 16, reason was because my friends were already making music and I used to see how everyone would enjoy their music and interact with them. I was inspired enough to start to writing.
And my partner Veto started back in primary school, freestyling, while people told him he got a real gift, so in High School that's when he started taking it seriously, he made his first single back then.

3.) How can you describe the type of your sound to any potential new fan.
A. The sound we make is street sound, the rawness in our vocals match the pain of where we come from, it represents the unity we have in these streets and the morals we tend to use to overcome today's challenges. Our music is nothing but love for Old School Music, Hip Hop as well as Soul, we combine both as much as we can to bring the best out of our music.

4.) Would you say that you are a good role model?
A. Fo Sho, we are good role models. I mean The day we made Tv appearance on Mikasi Sukasi the whole of Ikageng, Potchefstroom & Bloemfontein went Bananas on us. Because of the love we have for this music thing, it has given so much of the youth hope & courage to push further into their own dreams.

5.) How do you balance your music career with other obligations - school, mate, children etc.
A. Well, life's a balance there's things we have to do, things we love to do and things we really don't have to deal with but we as DOD always put the music first in everything we do. We went to college for sound engineering to study the theory of the sound and to learn the business side of the music and we still gotta provide for our families.

6.) What goal do you want to have achieved in 2021/2022?
A. We want Recognition, and also to have the best selling album of the year.

7.) What was the hardest sacrifice you had to make for your musical career?
A. To leave my home and family for the big city (Joburg) selling energy drinks in the streets so that we can afford the studio time and shoot a music video which never came out and putting my mom's dreams on hold so I could pursue mine.
For my partner Veto, it was cutting out his bad habits to further his music career.

8.) Who or What inspires your music?
A. Our music is inspired by a lot of musicians, especially people like James Brown, Sipho Hotsticks, Mdu, Mandoza, Teargas, Youngstacpt, Tupac, Biggie Smalls and Veto is mostly inspired by Old School Music and the Authors in the Music.

9.) What is your favorite part about doing music?
A. The feeling I get when we perform on stage and seeing our supportors happy, the excitement we get when we create a new song or a new project. I just feel joyful when we do anything that has to do with music.

10.) Which local mainstream artist would you like to collaborate with some day ?
