Question & Answer Interview with Buoy Loko(Q & A)

1.) Who are you and what do you represent? (tell us about yourself)
A. I am Buoy Loko from Cape Town, Western Cape. I was born in Engcobo and I was raised by a family where mothers had to be heads of the family. So in every record that I put out, I try my best to highlight the fact that women are the pillars of this world, I try not to look down on any woman because I am who I am today because of women.

2.) What makes you different from the other rappers who are participating in this rap contest ?
A. I like to refer to myself as an artist rather than just a rapper, because I have the ability and drive to dip my fingers into any genre. I always put my feelings into the records I put out, so basically everything I say comes from the heart.

3.) Why do you deserve to win this contest?
A. Honestly I think everyone deserves to win this contest, but what makes me stand out is that I was able to shift your focus from bars and punchlines, to a short storyline that you would have to listen properly to understand it.

4.) Would you say that you are a good role model?
A. Yes, maybe not a good one but I'm most definitely a role model. I feel like I became a role model in high school. I was known for being the most disruptive person, late coming and not doing my schoolwork...Despite all of that I managed to finish school without repeating a grade, which made other talented kids around me to aspire to be like me. I'm not boasting about that, I'm just trying to state the fact that I made it through school even when my focus was mostly on chasing my dreams. I learnt to juggle all that at a young age. Now i'm currently working as a BURGER flipper in order to invest in my music. This is inspiration to the young ones.

5.) What goal do you want to have achieved in 2021/2022?
A. To have already got my own full studio equipment! That has been my goal for the past 2 years and I'm proud to say that I'm still patiently chasing it regardless of the situations I get to face..

6.) What was the hardest sacrifice you had to make when preparing for your Round 2 entry video?
A. Time and Sleep was my sacrifices. I had to retake my video because of the little mistake that I didn't pay attention to. The sacrifice wasn't really big enough, and i have never had a problem with sacrificing anything if it's going to benefit my music career.

7.) Who or What inspired your Round 2 verse?
A. A lot of people inspired my verse, but one common thing I got from all of them is "success" and following what you love. In my video, I tried to reference people like Martin Luther King and Jay Z. Because these 2 are powerfully well known names in their industries.

8.) What is your favorite part about this contest?
A. It is watching my competitors. Not to criticize or judge them, but to show them love and support even when they are not getting it. I really feel like the most fun part about this is realizing the potential that each of us have and coming to an understanding that there can only be one winner out of all 15 talented artists.

9.) Apart from yourself, who else do you think has the potential to win this competition?
A. This is a hard one to answer because everyone is dope, but I'd have to go with 54 Swaggaza

10.) If you could describe this experience in 3 - 5 lines, what would you say?
A. It is an opportunity for me to see if I can play in the "big boys league". I won't lie, after the list of the top 15 I went to search every rapper that made it so I could know what I'm up against, and I was impressed by every single one of them. So this experience also gives me a chance to build relationships outside Cape Town, to connect with people who I think are more or less in the same level as I am.
