Liam (23) - One of the 'Reflector Dot Rap Contest' top 15

Introducing one of the Reflector Dot Rap Contest top 15 contestant — William (23) known as Liam — a lyrically skilled rapper from Thaba Nchu in the Free State province. The talented artist represents a group called the 'Black Mountain Ville', which was created by self-employed individuals who saw fit to make way for themselves in a relentless and unforgiving industry. Through his group, Liam has learnt not to make excuses or rely on the government for opportunities. He believes that his group is his strongest point, as they're independently dependent to each other. Liam is very skilled and can easily overthrow a lot of rappers at any given time. His aspiration is to build one of the most strongest foundation with his group.

Throughout the #ReflectorDotRapContest, Liam has shown great lyrical abilities, blending fast paced rap with a medium tone ~ Which makes him one of the revelations of this Rap Contest.

Read the Q and A interview below to understand more about Liam and what he represents.

Question and Answer Interview with Liam (Q & A)

1.) Who are you and what do you represent? (tell us about yourself)
A. My name is William from Thaba Nchu in Free state. I represent the BLaCK MoUNTAIN ViLLE. Music has always been my thing since a very young age. I went from being part of the school choir in Primary, to writing poems in my 7th grade. Everything started to take shape & form in my 11th grade when I started writing simple raps. The first song I made was in 2015, and from then on I've just been writing a lot of songs.

2.) What makes you different from the other rappers who are participating in this rap contest ?
A. From my observations I'd say my style is more focused on storytelling, syllables and flows, than on bars and metaphors. My style is unique and the vibe it gives off is what separates me from the other contestants.

3.) Why do you deserve to win this contest?
A. I would be lying if I said I had an answer for why I should be the winner of this contest. But if I were to guess I'd say my flow is sick and my storytelling is unmatchable.

4.) Would you say that you are a good role model?
A. I wouldn't say a good role model in particular, but I am a role model and since my video clips have surfaced I've had people walking to me and giving me props and praises, and encouraging me to push through. Some went as far as to say I've motivated them to follow their passions.

5.) What goal do you want to have achieved in 2021/2022?
A. For the purpose of not jinxing the BLaCK MoUNTAIN ViLLE Vision (Because I'm very superstitious), I will say that the execution is already afoot and our hard work is beginning to payoff.

6.) What was the hardest sacrifice you had to make when preparing for your Round 2 entry video?
A. There weren't any hard sacrifices, I just had to seclude and isolate myself from everybody and spend the whole Friday drafting and deleting Verses which I thought were not enough, until an acceptable one hit me on Saturday.

7.) Who or What inspired your Round 2 verse?
A. I'd say feelings of annoyance and the willingness not to be bothered by them, but to turn them into ammunition and fuel for my Inspiration.

8.) What is your favorite part about this contest?
A. Feedback from the viewers and their unbiased criticism, because most of them don't know me so their opinions are purely genuine observations and how they feel.

9.) Apart from yourself, who else do you think has the potential to win this competition?
A. I'd say Conscious Noah or Vuli F

10.) If you could describe this experience in 3 - 5 lines, what would you say?
A. This is my first time competing in a rap contest, so the experience has been mostly excitement, but sometimes anxiety with regards to having my art judged.
